I'm keeping this blog open so I can still post comments and read friends journals...

You know where my new blog is :-)

02 January 2006 @ 07:31 pm
Today was the last day of our holidays :-( I dont know when the next ones will be, probably March sometime when we go home for a bit. Thats not going to be a holiday as such though because we have to cover an awful lot of the UK and Wales in a short amount of time if we want to see everyone!
My sister is already talking about coming over to us in the summer again with Alex, as are other people so I dont think we are going to be lonely this year, thats for sure!

The sofas are here and they are very very comfy! They're high though and take some getting used to! If I sit right back in them, my feet dont even touch the floor! Not that I sit properly, I always have my feet up with some stitchy project on my lap :-)
I have fat where my muscles are, but all the same I had to use what little I've got to shift the old stuff upstairs. Tomorrow when I feel it I'm going to demand massages from hubby *grin*
So all in all, a good day, and a nice finish to whats been a long break over the holidays :-)

For retta.... my WIP!

How completely pointless?!!

Our new sofas are coming tomorrow afternoon :-) Somehow, we need to get our old one upstairs. J says he can lift it and will just need me to steer and support it. We'll see though, that sounds like a tough job to me!
Today we've done nothing, and I mean REALLY nothing! I didnt even get up til past 11, and I think I got showered and dressed around 4pm *grin* I love sleeping in and would be happy to do it each and every day :-)
Oh, we did have pizza around 8pm this evening... does that count as 'doing' something? (get your minds out of the gutter people!!)

I had a little fall out with somebody today but I really cant stand 2 faced people and I'd just had enough and said something. For the first time in a very long time I stood up for myself and I feel better for it. If somebody makes you cry, whats the point in keeping quiet?

You know I mentioned making the bag from old grocery bags? Well do General Dollar still have bright yellow bags? Because if so I might need to go shopping there tomorrow for a LOT of stuff!!

Okay, my proper resolutions...

To exercise and not pig out!, to make my kitchen herb garden :-) , to make the forum just a tiny bit bigger with a couple more members, to visit Chilie, to start babymaking, to start making all my Christmas cards for next year early, and to stay happy and in love!!
(My first card of the year:)

We are staying home tonight and having a few drinks. I dont know where everyone else is but J says they arent back yet. (Back from England???) I'm more than okay with that, I find New Years overrated anyhow! Tomorrow is just the same as all the days we've just had go by!! Back home, going out at New Years usually means you get rained on in icy cold temperatures... its not like that this year... its nearly 80 degrees out!!

I have some really beautiful purple yarn I just bought from Walmart to make a cardigan with. I cant wait to make a start on it! I was also looking at fabric to make a summer dress, but I couldnt decide if I really liked the stuff I'd picked out so I ended up leaving empty handed on that front. The shop was a nightmare and checking out just took aaaaages!!! I read a magazine whilst we waited, we were standing in line that long! Apparently Britney might be trying for a second baby to save her marriage to that Kevin whats-his-name?! Such a bad idea!!!
I miss reading all the celebrity gossip, (even if half of it isnt true!) I need to do it more often!!

The week has just disappeared!! I was going to do so much... yet for some reason I havent had time! Havent even been blogging, though I've had time on the computer! J is picking James up from the airport at the mo, so I figured I would blog for 10 mins before having a quick tidy up around here. I've been making a crochet bag from grocery bags all afternoon... dont ask me why, it doesnt even look pretty! I'm having fun with it though, even if it is a waste of time!!

Yesterday we went out to lunch and also bought a couple of new sofas from Rooms2Go... Tuesday we were sofa hunting though we didnt find anything, then in the evening we hired The Island on DVD... and Monday... I was sick from eating too much Christmas day!!
I just cant believe this week has gone so quickly!

25 December 2005 @ 07:48 pm
Oh my goodness me, I have eaten waaaaaay too much today!!

24 December 2005 @ 09:41 pm
I just want Christmas to be here!! I want to open presents and more importantly, eat the big dinner we're having! The only downside to that is I have to get up early tomorrow and cook it!! Cant have everything though!!

The alcohol has been flowing since about 5pm, and we've been relaxing this evening! I've painted my toenails :-) J's got the X Box on, and the dogs are playing with their new toys!
There are a couple of perks to being childless!!

The 40 year old virgin was funny and is well worth a watch, as others have said on here! I meant to post that on Wednesday but forgot!
I cut my hair Wednesday night too! I wanted lots of layers in it so it would curl, so gave the scissors to my hubby with some instructions!! By Thursday I realised I was looking a mess (haahaa!) so went out to buy some thinning scissors and some red hair dye to fix my emergency! Now... my hair looks okay! I picked a really dark red colour which should have given me deep red streaks in my light hair but for some reason I'm not half as red as I wanted to be, it barely shows :-( At some point I might pick up some other dye and have a go with that!
J's bought an X Box and has been glued to that since yesterday morning...

Today we're going out on the hunt for mincemeat to make mince pies. Christmas wouldnt be Christmas for me without some! And I have to wrap the dogs presents up!!!
Other than that, I'm ready for the big day!!

21 December 2005 @ 04:41 pm
I dont know if its because we live in a smallish town or what, but we braved Radio Shack, The dollar store, Big Lots, KFC and Kroger today and all were pretty quiet! You prepare yourself for the crowds this near to Christmas and there werent any!!
Bought the dogs a Christmas present each... how soft are we?!
J is also trying to decide whether he wants one of those new x box thingys. I want a new sofa as soon as I find a nice comfy one!

We have The 40 year old virgin on DVD to watch tonight which everyone who's watched it says is very funny! I'm really looking forward to seeing it!

Then I will be lighting a candle and celebrating the winter solstice :-)

We're staying in Texas! We found out today the contract is being extended til March 2007! I want to take a course in something now, and maybe get a job next year...! I'm bored of staying home all day and I'm ready for a challenge!

I finished an RR piece today... I think he looks cute!

You Are a Traditional Christmas Tree

For a good Christmas, you don't have to re-invent the wheel.
You already have traditions, foods, and special things you bring out every year.

Are they trying to say I'm boring?!

19 December 2005 @ 10:45 am
I was going to type this last night when I couldnt get to sleep, but instead I stayed in bed and tried harder to fall into the land of nod! Easier said than done when your husband cant sleep either and is making enough noise to keep the entire street awake!!

I'm feeling so restless again about next year... Dont know whether I want to stay or go anymore. Not that it matters what I think because the bossman gets to make the choice, not me. Whatever happens we get to face that nasty 9 hour flight back to the UK in March, and at the end of it, we either go home to our empty house to wait on our furniture arriving a month later, or we got back to a hotel and have family fighting for our limited time whilst we wait for our visas to be renewed.
You know, I'm grateful to be in Texas and to have had the opportunity to live on the other side of the world for a few years, but with all the adventure comes uncertainty and I'm not sure I'm cut out for it! Had I stayed in England... well, I probably would be bored working a 9-5 and slipping into my usual routines, but it would be safe and secure, something I'm craving at the moment!

Anyways....

Watched The Wizard of Oz last night on tv - Very cute!! Also took the dogs out for a walk, and braved the mall to have a look around! It was surprisingly quiet in there, though we didnt stay long!

My Dad in law hasnt even got back to us about coming over for the holidays which is very very wierd... he's usually very very speedy about getting in touch when I send a mail. He wont be able to get a flight this late in the day, will he?!

You Are a Classic Martini

You area sophisticated drinker, who knows that simple quality is over-rated.
You're a knowledgeable drunk, but sometimes you're a know-it-all when you're blasted.

You should never: Drink and gossip. You tend to forget who's standing right behind you!

Your ideal party: Has a real bartender. But no one mixes a better drink than you.

Your drinking soulmates: those with a Chocolate Martini personality

Your drinking rivals: those with a Margarita Martini personality

As far as I'm concerned, the holidays have started!!! J had today off, and I slept in til late... didnt even wake up til 11am when the dogs came in to see where I was! So far we've had a lazy day, and in a minute, we're making donuts!
Then we have the weekend to do whatever we like in, and then J only has to work Monday and Tuesday and the rest of the week they get to stay at home! BLISS!!

I just invited my father in law for Christmas. I have no idea whether he'll come or not as he'll need to catch a flight over from Wales and I know we've left it late in asking him! It wasnt our fault though, he normally goes to his sister for Christmas but he's just told me he'll be on his own. Going to admit it will be a bit difficult with him here as I dont know the guy other from chatting online, all I know is that he's stuck in his ways and spends too much time online or talking about/playing golf!
But nobody should be on their own for Christmas if somebody else can help them should they? So we'll see what happens.
J is taking a friend to the airport on Wednesday so it would be ideal if he could pick Dad up at the same time!!

It's cold here. I have a hot water bottle in my lap and I'm trying to warm my fingers on it between typing! It's just a dreary day in Texas!

Oh, did anyone see The Apprentice last night? Cant believe what a pig Randall (sp?) was at the end! Would it have killed him to stick up for Rebecca and get her a job too? I hope that changed Donald Trumps mind about him! It sure changed mine!!

I've been reading various blogs around the net (I'm addicted!) and I've had to laugh at some of the opinions out there! There was this one blog written by a Canadian who'd just got back from a trip to England and she said our coffee over there was shit! So I'd just like to clarify (haahaa!) our coffee tastes lovely thank you very much! Like anywhere, if you pay for cheap thats all you get!!
She also said not to cross roads cos of nutty drivers coming at you in all directions....
(I think she encountered a roundabout :D ) I know that the UK driving test is harder than the US one (in my opinion) so I'm wondering how it is in Canada now...
My pet hate with the drivers over here is when they use the turn signal AFTER they've just cut you up to come into your lane... WTF?!! Its too late to use your indicator now love... you've already made your crazy lane change and I've already breaked like mad to make enough room for you... :D
In that respect driving is safer back home as you can only overtake on one side, not both.
(NB, usually my hubby drives and I sit in the passenger seat swearing at stupid people to get off their phone.... another pet hate... how can it be legal to drive and use the phone at the same time?)

The other blog that caught my eye was one written by a girl who was going for an audition to become a stripper. Why would anyone choose to do that job?! theres no way I'd want to do it. She said she wanted to dance and have all eyes on her, but thats not the sort of attention I'd ever want, thats for sure.

I've had a lazy day today, other than mopping the floors and changing the sheets on the bed, I've done nothing! Trouble is, I feel guilty now...

12 December 2005 @ 04:39 pm
This afternoon I made Canine Cookies! My dogs are waiting patiently by the oven for them to finish cooling off... wonder how long they'll last?! Garlic and cheese... almost good enough for me to eat myself! I will resist though, they'd hate me if I sat down with a plate of them and a cuppa!

Tonight, I'll finish writing my Christmas cards... I will I will I will!
